A pram carrycot allows your baby to lie completely flat in a safe, snug environment, which is perfect for your newborn’s developing spine. It is recommended that a carrycot is used for newborns up until the age of 6 months old, or when they can roll over or sit up unaided, whichever comes first.
Pram carrycots click in and out of your pram frame, allowing you to transfer your baby indoors while leaving your pram frame outside making a pram carrycot ideal for visiting friends, returning home from walks and supporting undisturbed sleep.
All Redsbaby prams have a compatible carrycot. Our AERON has an optional carrycot (COSY Carrycot) which can be purchased at the same time as your pram or later, while our NUVO pram has a carrycot included at purchase.
The Redsbaby NUVO pram has a carrycot included.
When using the Redsbaby AERON, you have two options for your newborn. You can either use the seat in the fully reclined position with the 5-point harness or the COSY Carrycot.
Both options allow your baby to lie flat, crucial for spinal development, especially for newborns. Choosing the right option depends on your needs and preferences.
A carrycot can be detached from the pram frame and placed on the ground. It is larger, providing more space and allowing you to place your baby directly in the carrycot without the need for a harness. Redsbaby carrycots also fold flat for convenient storage. Generally, carrycots offer more comfort as they do not require the use of a harness.
The lay-flat seat is suitable if you prefer your baby to be secured in the 5-point harness and use the seat fully reclined.
While both options are safe, we recommend using a carrycot, especially if you use your pram daily as a carrycot provides the optimal environment for your newborn.
Understanding the difference between a pram and a stroller is important as each caters to different lifestyles and needs.
A pram is designed specifically for newborns and infants up to four years old. They allow babies to lie flat when the seat is fully reclined or have a pram carrycot that can be used with the pram frame. Prams often offer more functionality, including a reversible seat, larger canopies, and baskets. With their focus on providing maximum comfort during walks, prams are typically larger and heavier than strollers.
In contrast, a stroller, sometimes also called a buggy, is used for older babies and toddlers who can sit up. Although some strollers, including the Redsbaby SKIP² stroller, are suitable for newborns with a lay-flat seat, they generally feature forward-facing seats only. Strollers focus on being ultra-compact, lightweight, and simple. Many are designed for travel, fitting in overhead compartments on planes.
Determining whether you need a baby car seat or not depends on your lifestyle and preferences.
A baby car seat is used in a rearward-facing position in your vehicle. It can be easily removed from your car and attached to your pram (if compatible).
Choosing to purchase a baby car seat depends on your lifestyle and preferences. Many parents appreciate the convenience and simplicity of using a baby car seat with their pram, especially if planning multiple children. A baby car seat can be a worthwhile investment for future use.
A travel buggy/ stroller is a lightweight, compact stroller designed for families on the go. Perfect for holidays, day trips, and quick errands, travel buggy/ strollers are easy to fold, often fitting into overhead compartments on aeroplanes.
Despite their small size, they offer essential features such as a reclining seat, canopy, and storage basket. Some models, like our Redsbaby SKIP² Stroller, are suitable for newborns with a lay-flat seat.
Travel buggy/ strollers prioritise convenience, portability, and ease of use, making them an excellent choice for parents seeking hassle-free travel with their young family.
Our Redsbaby SKIP² Stroller is ultra-compact and lightweight and when placed in its included carrybag, can be placed in the overhead compartment of the aeroplane.
The size of a pram’s wheels is determined by the lifestyle and use that the pram is designed for, with different wheels sizes making a big difference on performance and usability.
Larger wheels, for example those found on our NUVO (full-size single to double pram), enhance manoeuvrability by rolling smoothly over uneven surfaces like gravel or grass. They also provide better stability and absorb bumps more effectively, ensuring a comfortable ride for your baby.
In contrast, smaller wheels as found on our AERON (urban pram) and SKIP² (travel buggy/ stroller) are more suited for smooth surfaces such as pavement, offering increased portability and compactness.
The choice of wheel size affects how well your pram handles different terrains and influences overall comfort during longer walks or outings. When selecting a pram, consider the wheel size that aligns best with your lifestyle and the environments you frequent.
There's nothing more important than the safety of your little one, which is why we rigorously test all our prams and strollers to meet and exceed the most stringent global safety standards.
We test to both voluntary and mandatory standards, as well as international standards, to ensure the safety and reliability of our products. Our prams are tested and designed to comply with the European Wheeled Child Conveyances – Pushchairs and Prams (EN 1888) and Carrycots and Stands (EN 1466).
